All of the following sentences are our translations from the book ‘おおかみこどもの雨と雪’。

 

1. “ゆるやかな風が、前髪を揺らした。”

A gentle wind shook her bangs.

ゆるやかなかぜが、まえがみをゆらした。

 

2. “彼と出会う前、こんな夢を見た。”

Before I met him, I saw him in this dream.

かれとであうまえ、こんなゆめをみた。

 

3. “胸が、高鳴った。”

[Her] chest was pounding.

むねが、たかなった。

 

4. “花は、　はっとした。”

Hana was taken aback.

はなは、はっとした。

 

5. “夢はそこで終わった。”

[And] it was there that the dream ended.

ゆめはそこでおわった。

 

6. “変わらない花の日常がある。”

Hana’s days were invariant.

かわらないはなのにちじょうがある。

 

7. “しかし、今日は違った。”

However, today was different.

しかし、　きょうはちがった。

 

8. “夜の町を並んで歩いて、いろんな話した。”

Walking the city at night, talking about different things.

よるのまちをならんであるいて、いろんなはなした。

 

9. “高台の公園から、街を見渡した。”

We looked over the city from the hill in the park.

We surveyed the city from the park’s vantage point.

たかだいのこうえんから、まちをみわたした。

 

10. “靴を脱いで、顔と手を洗って、椅子に深く腰掛ける。”

[I] took off my shoes, washed my face and hands, and took a deep seat in a chair.

くつをぬいで、かおとてをあらって、いすにふかくこしかける。

 

11. “事実は。”

Truthfully.

Honestly.

じじつは。

 

12. “この事実を告げたら、彼はどう思うだろう、と想像した。”

I told him the truth, I imagined what he would think.

このじじつをつげたら、かれはどうおもうだろう、とそうぞうした。

 

13. “件の古い喫茶店の前で、花は待った。”

Hana waited in front of the usual (same old) cafe.

くだんのふるいきっさてんのまえで、はなはまった。

 

14. “その顔が、たまらなく嬉しそうだった。”

That face looked so irresistibly delightful.

そのかおが、たまらなくうれしそうだった。

 

15. “だから、花も嬉しかった。”

So, of course, Hana was delighted too.

Therefore Hana was also delighted.

だから、はなもうれしかった。

 

11. “写真の中の彼が、微笑んでいる。”

And there he is, right in the middle of the picture, smiling.

しゃしんのなかのかれが、ほほえんでいる。
